Family, friends and a well-known Australian musician have farewelled 19-year-old Taylah Anderson in a moving service.
The teenager died on September 15 after succumbing to injuries sustained from a crash on Yamba Road at Palmers Island the previous day.
Her mum Allison Anderson told those gathered in Chatsworth Chapel on Monday about the day “Tay Tay” entered the world.
“It started with a little bit of drama,” she said.
“The night before she arrived, our house was broken into.
“They decided to take our car keys, house keys and came into our home and take the brand-new baby bag through the house, where they dumped it in the backyard.”
Ms Anderson said she went into labour while changing the locks the next day.
She said her daughter was born exactly eight minutes after she arrived at Grafton Base Hospital.
“From the day we brought her home she was a precious little doll who slept through the night; she was just perfect,” Ms Anderson said.
Family friend and funeral officiate Mark Ohlmus read a letter on behalf of dad Brett Anderson, who briefly detailed Taylah’s many sporting achievements, including soccer, netball, and AFL.
“From a young age Taylah had a passion for sport and gave everything a go,” he said.
“She loved AFL and loved to play to the best of her ability and with such determination; it was something she was so proud of.”
Owners of Angourie Italian restaurant Barbaresco, Adrian and David Adorno, also spoke about their “highly dedicated and highly passionate” young sous chef.
“When she came up to us wanting an apprenticeship, she was so keen that she reminded me of a blonde puppy just wagging her tail,” Adrian Adorno said.
“She was David’s student and buddy in the kitchen and even though she had her moments, David knew he’d found a diamond in the rough.”
Shortly after a photo presentation, funeral attendees were surprised to see one of Taylah’s favourite singers, Guy Sebastian, appear on screen to deliver a heartfelt message to her family.
“I just want to send my love to everybody,” he said.
“You must be feeling so many things today and I know that she shone so brightly while she was alive, but that light is still going to be lit for a long time to come.
“Allison, big love to you and to all of the family.
“I just want to wrap my arms around you and give you all a big hug.”
Taylah is survived by her siblings Madeline, William, Harvey, Brooklyn and Hudson.
