Clarence Valley teenager, 18, charged with police pursuit on the Gwydir Hwy, Waterview Heights

An 18-year-old learner motorbike rider who only received his licence in late December allegedly reached 200km/h on a North Coast highway in a failed bid to flee police.

An 18-year-old learner motorcycle rider was allegedly pinched travelling at 200km/h on the highway just outside Grafton in a bid to dodge Clarence police.

The young man was spotted by police on the Gwydir Highway at Waterview Heights.

Police allege he was riding a blue Suzuki motorbike when he accelerated away from officers who attempted to stop him on Sunday.

Police allege he hit 200km/h during a short pursuit before he pulled the motorcycle over and was arrested.

The 18-year-old has been charged and is due to face court. He was also slapped with infringement notices.

The 18-year-old only received his learner licence in late December and police allege the vehicle was not registered.

He was taken to Grafton Police Station and was charged with initiating a police pursuit, driving dangerously and exceeding the speed limit by more than 45km/h.

He also received infringements for not having an appropriate learner motorcycle and not displaying an L-plate.

The 18-year-old’s license was suspended and he will face Grafton Local Court in February.
