Welcome to hump day!

Are the days feeling short? The winter solstice - shortest day of the year - was on Monday. This morning the sun rose - behind the clouds - at 6.43am, and will set before most people have finished work at 4.58pm. Spare a thought for those who live in Finland’s Svalbard. Europe’s northernmost inhabited region in the Arctic Circle experiences 84 days without seeing the sun throughout winter. On the flipside, in summer the sun does not set for 60 days.

Meanwhile, there will be a ‘cold’ moon tomorrow night - the full moon which rises during one of the longest nights of the year.

WEATHER

Forecast: Partly cloudy. Patchy fog this morning, mainly inland. Slight chance of a shower, chiefly along the coast. Light winds. Daytime maximum temperatures around 20.
