The two occupants of the house escaped without serious injury though one was allegedly bitten by a 47-year-old.

Car driven into Toormina home

A woman arrested following an alleged domestic incident in which a car was driven into the side of a house in Toormina has been formally charged.

Detective Chief Inspector Guy Flaherty said the 47-year-old, who spent much of Tuesday under police guard at Coffs Harbour Hospital, has been charged with domestic violence and intimidation offences as well as malicious damage with intent to endanger life and enter property with intent to commit an indictable offence.

Mr Flaherty said the charges were “very serious” and could carry up to 20 years in prison if they were proven in court.

The incident occurred late on Monday night, where it is alleged the woman tried to enter a home on Walco Drive before getting into an Alfa Romeo station wagon and allegedly driving it into the side of the house.

While the two occupants of the home were uninjured, one was allegedly bitten by the 37-year-old when they tried to restrain her. She was arrested a short time later.

Mr Flaherty thanked the public for contacting police when the incident took place.

“One of the things we always say is if you hear, see or are exposed to domestic violence speak up at the earliest opportunity,” he said.

“We would like to thank the members of the public for alerting us to what had gone on and advising police of the disturbance.”
