Close to all the fine things in life – that’s the lifestyle promise for those living in a $10.3 million proposed apartment complex at Woolgoolga.
Plans have been lodged with Coffs Harbour City Council for a 20-unit block on the corner of Market and Queen streets.
The vacant, level site is only a short stroll to Woopi’s renowned cafes, restaurants and beach – and is the latest major development for the village in the wake of a new regional sports complex and upgrades at the Diggers Club.
“The proposal … will form a signature building of high quality residential living contributing to a vibrant public realm,” Casa Koala Architecture’s Jim Booth said.
“The building has been sculpted to provide a building form of high visual interest.”
The 20 apartments will include one, two and three bedroom offerings, all with open-plan living areas.
“The proposal provides a significant opportunity to rejuvenate the local area and breathe new life into the existing streetscape,” Mr Booth states in the planning documents.
The three-storey building will include a basement car park, an internal lift, electronic access controls for residents and intercoms at the two entries for visitors.
A development application for a five-storey, 32-apartment building at the site was lodged previously, and withdrawn in 2021.
In the statement of environmental effects for the current application prepared by Petersen Consulting Group, it’s noted the residential project will provide a boost for CBD businesses.
“The development will … provide a longer-term benefit to the local economy via increased household expenditure to the immediate Woolgoolga Town Centre,” the group states.
“(It) will provide further housing opportunities within the city, which will in part address the present widely acknowledged shortage in housing supply.”
The applicant is Casa Koala Pty Ltd and the project remains on public exhibition until January 16.
