Police say driver high range after cop car collision at Sandy Beach

A man faces a raft of charges after his vehicle and a police car collided at Sandy Beach.

A man will face court after allegedly following a police officer and colliding with his vehicle at Sandy Beach north of Coffs Harbour on Tuesday.

Police say the 50-year-old man has been charged with high range drink driving and other offences.

About 3.15pm (Tuesday 31 May 2022), a detective senior constable attached to Mid North Coast Police District attended a home at Sandy Beach, and spoke to the occupants, at about 3.15pm on Tuesday, May 31.

The officer then left, but was allegedly followed by one of the occupants, and their vehicles collided at the intersection of Johnsons Road and Solitary Islands Way.

The 50-year-old driver was subjected to a roadside breath test, which returned a positive result.

The man was refused bail and will appear at Port Macquarie Local Court.

He was arrested and taken to Coffs Harbour Police Station, where a breath analysis returned an alleged reading of 0.197.

The man was charged with knowingly drive vehicle in manner menaces other, drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous, and drive with high range PCA.

He was refused bail and will appear at Port Macquarie Local Court on Wednesday.

The officer was uninjured during the incident.
