A 57-year-old man is dead after his station wagon plunged down an embankment west of Macksville this morning.

Emergency services were called to Taylors Arm Rd at Upper Taylors Arm about 1am following reports of a crash.

Officers attached to Mid North Coast Police District arrived to find the vehicle had left the road, and crashed into a paddock.

The driver was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics but could not be saved.

A crime scene has been established, and police are investigating the cause.

On Monday, a man’s body was found inside a car after a crash which sparked a bushfire at South Arm.

Emergency services were called to Simpsons Ridge Rd after smoke was seen rising from bushland.

The car was found on fire, with the nearby scrub also alight.

NSW Rural Fire Service firefighters extinguished the car fire and found the body inside the charred vehicle.

Mid North Coast Police District officers are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Police have been speaking with the family of an 86-year-old man last seen driving the car.
