An out of control truck has left a trail of destruction in its’ wake after steamrolling through the busiest strip of a Coffs Coast town.
Diners were stunned to see the truck ploughing through scenery on First Ave in Sawtell last night at about 10.30, collecting almost everything in its path, including a car, van and street signs.
The truck came to a crashing halt when it slammed into an old fig tree and took out several branches.
A Fire and Rescue NSW spokesman said the truck had taken out a significant amount of tree-line in its path.
Some reports have suggested the truck-driver had been misguided by GPS.
First Ave is a 40kmh zone peppered with Sawtell’s busiest bars and restaurants.
The road was blocked off to traffic for a number of hours while emergency services crews attended.
NSW Fire and Rescue teams used chainsaws and specialist equipment to dislodge a large tree branch from the truck’s trailer.
A tow truck was also called to assist after the incident about 10km south of Coffs Harbour.
It is unclear how the truck lost control in the busy pedestrian hot spot.
It’s understood no one was injured.
More to come.
