Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was hit by a car in Sawtell on Thursday night.
Just before 7pm emergency services were called to the intersection of First Avenue and Bridge St Sawtell after reports a man had been struck by a Toyota Corolla heading south.
The driver of Corolla – a 45-year-old woman – stopped to render assistance before NSW Ambulance paramedics could get to the scene.
On arrival, paramedics treated a 43-year-old man with a critical head injury.
The man was taken by Ambulance to Coffs Harbour Hospital before being flown to Gold Coast University Hospital by Westpac Rescue Helicopter in a critical condition.
First Avenue was closed for several hours police officers worked at the scene and they are now appealing for anyone in the area around the time of the incident to contact police with any information. That includes dash-cam footage.
The incident occurred just a few hundred metres from the scene of another serious crash which occurred on the same stretch of road.
The head on smash left a 64-year-old man trapped inside his upturned vehicle and prompted local residents to speak out about concerns drivers were treating the road like a “racetrack”.
