Coffs Harbour
Don't miss out on the headlines from Coffs Harbour. Followed categories will be added to My News.
Plans have been lodged for a $25.4 million redevelopment of the The Promenade on Coffs Creek.
In the development application before Coffs Harbour City Council the site has been described as the gateway to the Jetty precinct from the western end.
Plans are currently on public exhibition and this closes on Friday (June 11).
The site was once home to the Coffs Butter Factory – and to the north was the former Coffs Creek baths.
The current Promenade site is now more than 20 years old.
Plans involve the demolition of existing dated buildings and the construction of a three-storey tower which will include commercial premises (office, retail and cafe) on the ground level and 39 residential apartments on the upper levels.
There will be underground parking and aquatic leisure facilities.
The Coffs Creek proposal includes public access and art along Coffs Creek and within the adjacent Council-owned parklands.
It sits between two reserves on a bend in the creek and occupies the corner of Mildura Street and Harbour Drive.
The shop-top apartments will be a mix of two and three bedroom options and three penthouses.
Plans by Walknorth Architects show a large veranda on the creek side and open space containing an elevated garden terrace for the public with a stepped amphitheatre and integrated garden beds connecting to the creek front walkway.
From bars and restaurants to water slides and eco-cabins there are many exciting plans currently before Coffs Harbour City Council.
But industry leaders have warned a tradie shortage on the Coffs Coast could hamper the development boom.

The C.ex Group is the owner of City Boulevard, which has been described as being past its design life.
It is located opposite C.ex Coffs with frontages on both Vernon St and Harbour Dr.

More events at new surf club
The Woolgoolga Surf Life Saving Club is seeking to increase the number of functions allowed at their new clubhouse.
The brand new $4m clubhouse on Ocean street was officially opened in September last year.
The development application currently before Coffs Harbour City Council seeks to increase the number of functions allowed there to be lifted from 10 to 40 per year, and to allow for ‘ live and amplified music’.
Tradie shortage could put the brakes on boom
Coffs Harbour is experiencing a perfect storm of multimillion dollar projects either underway or in the pipeline in coming years but a shortage of tradespeople is hampering the boom.
In the thick of the action is local company Faircloth and Reynolds which has been doing business in Coffs Harbour for the past 36 years.
But, the shortage of tradespeople is a common problem according to their Business Development Manager Peter Richardson.
“A lot of the big businesses in town are having an issue with getting tradies.
“There’s not enough companies training them up. We need sheet metal workers and refrigeration mechanics and we’re certainly playing our part with 55 apprentices on the books at the moment.”
