Leon Paulger-Jarrett pleads not guilty to affray charge

A plea of not guilty has been entered by a second young man charged after a 28-year-old was found unconscious on a footpath near a Coffs Harbour hotel.

Leon Paulger-Jarrett, 20, was excused from attending Coffs Harbour Local Court when the matter came before magistrate Julia Virgo on Wednesday.

Charged with affray, the matter is now listed for mention at Coffs Local Court on September 21.

Paulger-Jarrett remains on bail, the conditions of which have not been varied.

These include that he must not enter the Coffs Harbour Hotel, nor be with or contact any Crown witnesses.

Emergency services were called to a licensed premises on the Pacific Highway at about 2.30am on Sunday, July 3, following reports a man had been assaulted.

Officers from Coffs/Clarence Police District found a 28-year-old man unconscious on a nearby pavement.

He was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Coffs Harbour Base Hospital, and then flown to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney.

The man sustained a suspected skull fracture and was listed in a critical condition.

A crime scene was established.

Just over an hour later officers were patrolling Shephards Lane when they stopped and arrested an 18-year-old man.

Clancy Webber is charged with reckless grievous bodily harm and remains before the courts. He has entered a not guilty plea and is on bail.

Paulger-Jarrett was arrested at a Bonville address about 12.10pm on Sunday, July 3, and taken to Coffs Harbour Police Station where he was charged with affray.
