A young Coffs Harbour man who punched his pregnant ex in the face after she spat towards him later sent her a string of vile, threatening text messages.

Joshua Walker, 22, faced Coffs Harbour Local Court on Wednesday, where he was sentenced on a raft of domestic violence-related charges.

The long list of offending began on July 8 when Walker and his one-time partner had a heated verbal argument.

“The victim spat towards the accused (Walker) and the accused, using his closed fist, punched the victim in the face,” police facts state.

A barrage of text messages and phone calls followed.

“Along with the abusive messages the accused made a number of threats to kill, stab and burn the victim’s house down,” police state in court documents.

One text was particularly chilling: “If you not gonna be with me you ain’t being with no one I’ll kill you c--t I’ll take us both outta this life.”

On August 8, police received information Walker was in the company of his ex at Nambucca Heads – a town he was not to enter as part of bail conditions.

They found the pair sitting in a car, with the woman in the driver’s seat.

Officers handcuffed Walker and tried to lead him to the police wagon.

“The accused dug his heels into the ground and thrashed his upper body backwards,” police state.

Police managed to wrestle Walker to the ground “where he continued to thrash his body, screaming and shouting”.

He was hit in the face with a short burst of capsicum spray.

Walker continued to send “controlling” messages to his ex in the weeks following.

Walker’s lawyer Xavier Sellathambu told the court his client had “significant issues with his anger” and “accepts full responsibility for his offending”.

Magistrate Julia Virgo described the threats as “extremely abusive”.

Walker pleaded guilty to two counts of breaching an apprehended violence order (AVO), two counts of stalking/intimidating, and one count each of common assault and hindering or resisting police.

He was fined $900 and placed on a two-year community correction order.
