A keen Coffs Coast photographer snapped an unexpected sight – a sizeable sinkhole smack bang in the middle of the Jetty Foreshore.
An image by Darren Heelis which has been widely shared in Coffs social media groups shows a red wheelie bin in the hole on Jordan Esplanade, adjacent to popular Jetty Beach.
City of Coffs Harbour was alerted on Tuesday, a spokesperson said, and it was just a matter of hours before the sinkhole was fixed.
Asked for more information, a council spokesperson confirmed workers were “notified of a large hole on Jordan Esplanade on November 26”.
The sinkhole was “caused by a leaking water main”.
“Repairs were quickly affected and the sinkhole was backfilled to make safe,” the spokesperson said.
