A 40-year-old man police allege raided a string of shops at a Coffs Coast shopping mall is fighting all charges at trial.
Larry Enrico Pucci has pleaded not guilty to raiding nine premises at Moonee Marketplace on Moonee Beach Rd more than four years ago on September 15, 2020.
He faces 11 charges – seven counts of break and enter armed with an offensive weapon, two counts of theft and two counts of entering a building with intent to commit an indictable offence.
The Coffs Harbour District Court trial began on Tuesday.
Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) senior counsel David Morters told the jury Pucci was allegedly armed and broke into Moonee Marketplace outside of business hours.
Mr Morters alleged Pucci hit Black Apple Cafe, Moon Dragon Chinese Restaurant, Russell’s Prime Quality Meats, Rosies, Kez’s Sweet Life, Outpost Hair, the post office. Pucci is also accused of entering Taj and Co restaurant and Aloy Dee Thai with intent to commit a crime.
Among the alleged offending, the prosecution told the jury Pucci stole sums of $400 and $100.
Pucci has been representing himself in the trial. He appeared to be attentive and taking notes as the proceedings began.
The trial is expected to take two to three weeks.
