The brother of a convicted Coffs Harbour rapist has convictions for stalking and intimidating a woman and driving a car to ‘menace’ her, it can be revealed.
Ex-boxer and Coffs Harbour gym instructor Javed Khaksar was found guilty in the local court in July 2023 of several offences, including stalking and intimidating with the intent to cause fear, and knowingly driving a vehicle in a manner that menaces another person.
He is the brother of Faridoon Khaksar, sentenced last week in Coffs Harbour District Court for raping an 18-year-old woman after leading her away from the Coast Hotel and raping her in the backseat of his car.
There has been some disappointment in the community over the sentence handed down with Judge Michael McHugh ruling that the 22 months already spent remanded in custody was appropriate punishment particularly in light of his deprived upbringing in war-torn Pakistan.
Last week, Judge McHugh ruled that Faridoon Khaksar could return to Coffs Harbour with his lawyer saying it was “the only home town” he had ever known.
Now, it can be revealed that his brother, 26-year-old Javed Khaksar, has previously been found guilty of a number of offences, which also involve a young female victim and have links to the Coast Hotel in Coffs Harbour.
It was heard in Coffs Harbour Local Court in January 2023 Javed Khaksar had became romantically involved with the victim after a series of boxing lessons, but things allegedly turned dangerous after she broke it off.
Their relationship lasted for approximately five months before she called it off, about three weeks prior to her running into him at the Coast Hotel nightclub on the night of March 27.
He was there with his brother, whom she called “Freddy”, and on a number of occasions tried to come close to her and block exits.
Javed Khaksar denied a number of charges stemming from the night and lasting into the early hours of the next morning.
During a part-hearing in January 2023 his lawyer told the court Javed Khaksar does not drink alcohol and can be “quite intense”.
The complainant said: “he moved quickly with things, yes”.
She further told the court that when she went to leave the hotel she saw him hiding in bushes outside and she and her friend were too scared to drive home so they called a male friend.
The court heard that on the drive home she took several detours but Javed Khaksar managed to locate her, followed her in his silver Skyline – sounding his horn, travelling closely behind her and then overtaking and cutting in front of her before slamming on the brakes.
At one point, according to her evidence, he stopped his car on the side of the road with his hazard lights on and stood out on the highway and she only narrowly avoided crashing into him.
She told the court she took several exits including one at Moonee Beach to lose him, but that he “followed me right into my driveway”.
In July 2023 Magistrate Theresa Hamilton found him guilty of intimidation with intent to cause fear of physical harm and knowingly drive a vehicle in a manner that menaces another.
He pleaded guilty to a charge of contravening a prohibition or restriction in a domestic apprehended violence order.
A number of other charges including negligent driving and driving recklessly or furiously were withdrawn.
He was convicted and sentenced to a 15-month community corrections order and disqualified from driving for 12 months.
