Covid-19 alert issued for Nambucca Heads funeral attendees

A small number of people who attended a large funeral in Nambucca Heads were diagnosed with the virus on Thursday.

A public health alert has been issued after a number of people who attended a large funeral in Nambucca Heads tested positive for Covid-19.

The North Coast Public Health Unit has released a statement urging anyone who attended the funeral at Lions Park, Nambucca Headland on October 23 at 11am to come forward for testing.

A spokesman said a small number of people who attended the funeral were diagnosed with the virus on Thursday.

The cases, all from the Nambucca Valley area, will be included in Friday’s figures.

Contact tracing is underway and assessment is being made on whether any funeral attendees will be classified as close or casual contacts.

Those who attended the funeral are asked to isolate immediately and remain isolated until they receive a negative result or are directly contacted by NSW Health.

Meanwhile, two Coffs Coast schools which closed on Tuesday for contact tracing and cleaning have reopened. Orara High and Woolgoolga Primary Schools were closed due to confirmed cases within the communities.

The Mid North Coast reported 18 new cases of Covid-19 on Wednesday, including two from Coffs Harbour, thirteen from Kempsey and three from Port Macquarie, bringing the total number of cases to 233 since the beginning of the NSW outbreak.

Testing rates remained high with 1,546 tests being conducted on Wednesday including 309 in Coffs Harbour.
