Coffs Harbour psychologist Craig Myles Baker charged over alleged sexual assault of teen

The 55-year-old clinical psychologist allegedly sexually assaulted a 15-year-old boy during specialist appointments at Coffs Harbour, a court heard.

The case against a former psychologist, charged with sexually assaulting a teenager while practising in Coffs Harbour, was mentioned briefly in Coffs Harbour court on Friday.

Detectives from the State Crime Command’s Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad began investigating in August, following reports a teenage boy was indecently assaulted by a man known to him during clinical psychology appointments.

Craig Myles Baker was arrested in Kempsey around noon on Thursday.

The 55-year-old was charged with indecent assault of a person under 16 years of age and aggravated sexual intercourse with a person between 14 and 16 years.

Police allege Baker sexually assaulted a male patient, aged 15 at the time, during specialist appointments at Coffs Harbour between April and May in 2017.

The matter was mentioned briefly in Coffs Harbour court on Friday afternoon but the accused did not appear in person or via audio visual link.

The case was adjourned to November 23 where he is expected to appear via audio visual link.

No plea was entered.

The Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad is comprised of detectives who are specially trained to investigate crimes against children and adults, including sexual assault, serious physical abuse, and extreme cases of neglect.
