The final hours of Brent Jones’ life are surrounded in mystery and his devastated family are desperate for answers.
His sister Loren Jones recently made a touching tribute to the 33-year-old who was killed in a two-car crash west of Dorrigo in the early hours of Saturday morning, June 18.
Brent was also a loving father to Willa who turns four today (Friday, June 24).
She says the family is desperate for answers.
They say he left the family home in Sawtell around 3pm on the Friday afternoon before the accident and believe he may have been going to meet a woman.
Brent’s father Rick Jones posted a plea on Facebook for people to come forward.
“My son left our house all dressed up to go and see, who we think was a woman – maybe local.
“Brent doesn’t venture far from home unless it is a camping trip or a fishing trip.”
He went on to say that early crash investigations indicate he may have been travelling home at the time of the accident at around 12.20am.
“So we are trying to find whereabouts he was coming from, maybe Armidale?”
The crash took place at on The Waterfall Way at Hernani, west of Dorrigo.
Loren said somebody came forward on Thursday morning to say he was last seen at the St Kilda Hotel in Armidale.
“The lady who came forward said he left the hotel in good spirits,” Loren said.
“We don’t really know who he was with though.”
She said the family only found out from forensic police on Thursday that his body was at John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle yesterday so until he gets released we can’t get a date for the funeral.
The driver of the other vehicle – a 50-year-old man – was treated by NSW Ambulance before being taken to hospital for mandatory testing.
Police investigations into the accident are continuing.
Rick is urging whoever it was that may have met his son that night at the pub to message him directly on Facebook to shed some light on what happened the night before his death.
“If that person can contact us, so that we have some closure, it would be much appreciated.
“This has nothing to do with the police – and can you contact us through messenger, please, please.”
Loren has established a GoFundMe page to help ease the financial burden on her family in coming months.
