Loren Jones has been left devastated at the loss of her only brother Brent, 33, who was killed on the Waterfall Way in the early hours of Saturday, June 18.

“He had a pure heart of gold – a great sensitivity for the world around him,” Loren said.

They were born and raised in Sawtell to proud parents Rick and Roslyn Jones.

Brent was born on July 24, 1988 and Loren followed two years later and they both went to Bayldon Primary School then Toormina High School.

“We are very similar, did everything together. We had a really close bond.”

Loren says that since the accident, all the family has been able to claim is the gold necklace he wore daily.

A keen fisherman, surfer and adventurer he was well known and much-loved in the community; spending most mornings up at the Sawtell headland getting a coffee talking to locals.

“It was his favourite spot,” Loren said.

Brent was also a loving father to daughter Willa who would have turned four this week.

Brent was 17 when he started working for his father’s cement rendering business.

“He recently took over my father’s business of 40 years last year.”

Loren said her brother was very adventurous, loved his surfing and loved the ocean.

“He was big on his fishing and camping lifestyle and always exploring.

“You’d find him out on the boat fishing or out in the bush fossicking.”

Brent was also very creative and loved to paint – he won the ‘best new talent’ at the Sawtell Art Gallery last year.

“His artwork is hung in many homes,” Loren said.

After leaving the area at the age of 18, Loren moved back home to Sawtell in November last year.

“So I’ve had the pleasure to hang out with my brother over the last seven months camping and fishing.”

Brent died in the early hours of Saturday morning following a two-vehicle crash on The Waterfall Way at Hernani, west of Dorrigo.

He died at the scene and the other driver of the other vehicle – a 50-year-old man – was treated by NSW Ambulance before being taken to hospital for mandatory testing.

Police investigations into the accident are continuing.

Loren has established a GoFundMe page to help ease the financial burden on her family in coming months.
