A sexual consent trial involving a 30-year-old man will not go ahead in Coffs Harbour today. Read why.

Australia's domestic violence crisis

The trial of a man charged with sexual intercourse without consent due to start in Coffs Harbour District Court on Monday was called off.

Angas Campbell was to stand trial on one charge of sexual intercourse without consent (domestic violence) and four charges of sexually touch another person without consent (domestic violence).

The trial was due to start on Monday, October 10 before Judge Jonathan Priestley but the court heard there would be no need for a trial as Campbell would be pleading guilty to the four charges of sexually touch another person without consent (domestic violence).

The charge of sexual intercourse without consent was dropped.

As the court officer read out the dates and locations for each of the four charges of touching without consent and asked for his plea, the 30-year-old responded calmly “guilty” to each.

The offences occurred in Toormina and Coffs Harbour from July 2019 to December 2020.

The female victim sat in the court room to observe the proceedings.

The matter is listed for sentence on December 16 before the district court at Coffs Harbour.

A psychological report is requested from Coffs Harbour Health Campus Community Mental Health Services and a sentencing assessment report is requested from Coffs Harbour Community Corrections District Office.
