Police are investigating a suspicious fire at a North Coast tobacconist. Here’s what we know.

Police are investigating a suspicious fire at a North Coast tobacconist.

Emergency services were called to Rajah Rd, Ocean Shores about 12.45am on Tuesday following reports of a fire.

Five trucks from the surrounding areas including Brunswick Heads, Byron Bay, Tweed Heads and Mullumbimby were on the scene.

A Fire and Rescue NSW spokesman said the first crew to arrive reported “flames” and “smoke” coming out of the building and immediately gained entry.

“Firefighters wearing air sets attacked the fire,” the spokesman said.

The blaze was contained about 1.30am and extinguished about 3am, police confirmed the business sustained significant damage. A crime scene was established by officers from the Tweed/Byron Police District.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
