Police are investigating an alleged violent incident involving young people and carnival workers in Brunswick Heads.
Rumours have been running rife on social media about the details of an alleged brawl in the vicinity of the MacGregor Family Carnival.
The carnival has been operating at Banner Park in the Byron Shire town for decades.
It was in the town from early December and was packed up on Sunday.
A NSW Police spokeswoman said police were called to the park about 9.30pm on Friday following “reports of a large brawl”.
She said investigations were ongoing.
“Upon police arrival, the groups had dispersed,” she said.
“Police have been told that a group of young persons at the carnival in Banner Park had been engaging in anti-social behaviour before carnival employees approached the group.
“A verbal altercation then occurred between both parties before the groups engaged in a physical affray.”
No formal charges have been laid at this stage.
