A woman who secreted prohibited drugs in a body cavity as she tried to get into the Splendour in the Grass music festival was undone by an undercover cop.

At Byron Bay Local Court, Lucy King from Torquay pleaded guilty to possessing a prohibited drug at the festival on July 23.

The 31-year-old had been waiting in line to enter the event when an undercover cop overheard her tell a male friend she was going to put something in her “hidden pocket”, police facts state.

The officer then saw her remove a small item from her handbag before exiting the line and then re-returning to the same spot moments later.

King was approached by plain clothes police who identified themselves to her and asked what she put down the front of her pants.

“She immediately made admissions to being in the possession of drugs,” police state.

King was removed from the line and taken to a private search location where she made further admissions to having four MDMA tablets in a small sealed plastic bag.

Police facts stated King was told she would be strip-searched by a female officer due to where the drugs had been hidden.

A small bag of pills which weighed 2.75 grams was found.

In court, magistrate Karen Stafford was not impressed and said the degree of planning and trying to avoid the detection of the drugs made the offence more serious.

“People hiding drugs in internal cavities is a great concern and could be very dangerous in terms of physical health,” Ms Stafford said.

“There is a need for the court to send a message to not engage in illegal and dangerous acts.”

Ms Stafford said she accepted King immediately pleaded guilty to the offence and showed genuine remorse at the first possible chance.

Ms Stafford did not convict King, and gave her an 18-month conditional release order.
