Police have launched investigations into a suspicious fire which caused extensive damage to an op shop in a Byron Bay industrial area.

Firefighters from across the North Coast and into Queensland were called to the fire in what was described as an industrial shed on Grevillea St about 8.30pm on Monday.

The response from a swarm of firefighters and other emergency services workers clogged roads in and out of Byron, including the Pacific Motorway.

The blaze at the shop, Global Ripple Opshop Byron Bay, was extinguished by 10.30pm following the widespread response.
