Byron Bay independent hardware store Mitre 10 to close

Byron Bay’s much-loved Mitre 10 store is set to close its doors for the final time. See why locals will mourn its passing.

Byron Bay’s Mitre 10 hardware store on Jonson St is set to close its doors, marking the end of an era.

The business is privately owned by James Mitchell and Lisa Mitchell who announced the news on the store’s Facebook page.

“So sad it’s closing. I have loved working for James and Lisa for the last 9 years. Best bosses ever. Mighty helpful Mitre 10. We rock,” Kim Flugelman posted.

“So sad to hear this. Another long-term business closes,” wrote Jann Burmester.

The Byron store has been running for more than 22 years.

They have not provided a reason for shutting down.

Over the years Mitre 10 has played an active role in the community.

In 2016, the hardware joined forces with Byron Bay’s premier annual aquatic event, The Byron Bay Ocean Swim Classic and Mini Swim, by becoming the new sponsors of the Mini Swim.

There is a Bunnings Warehouse in Byron Bay’s industrial estate.
