NAPLAN: Top performing Byron Bay primary and secondary schools revealed

A Byron Bay Steiner school has been named as the best performing secondary school in the region in new NAPLAN results.

Cape Byron Rudolf Steiner School co-principal James Deefholts said it was “a pleasant surprise to have achieved such outstanding results” as the school minimised preparation for NAPLAN.

“We strive to deliver our curriculum through real life experiences with a holistic approach to learning and development and standardised testing is often unable to capture this,” he said.

“Our teaching program is designed to limit stress in the developing child.”

An independent analysis of newly-released 2022 NAPLAN results has revealed the schools which performed the best in the Year 5 and Year 9 tests.

The Steiner School achieved an average result of 605.4 to be named the best performing Byron secondary school.

Holy Family Catholic Primary School in Skennars Head was named the second best performing primary school in the Northern Rivers, after Emmanuel Anglican College, and the best performing in Byron Bay.

To determine how each school performed in 2022, the scores for all five test subjects for the student cohort (Year 5 or Year 9) were combined and the average found.

Special schools, schools with fewer than 20 students enrolled, and schools that did not report any results for NAPLAN subjects were excluded from the analysis.
