A Sydney rap group has clashed with police who were called to shut down the filming of a music video clip in southwest Sydney.

Footage shared on social media shows unidentified people throwing bottles and flares at police and a scuffle with officers where a female cop appears to use pepper spray to subdue the crowd.

The group, known as Claymore 046, gathered behind the suburb’s shopping centre on Dobell Rd in the afternoon to film the music video.

Some were wearing face masks, and waving bats and knives as props for filming.

They could be seen with cartons of bottles of Corona and Somersby ciders.

By the time it became dark things got out of control and police were called.

A police spokesman said bottles and lit flares were thrown.

People can be heard yelling “f*** you” to police in video shared to social media as the officers tell the group to get back.

It is not suggested any of the people pictured in the earlier filming were involved in the clash with police.

NSW Police confirmed they were called about 7pm to behind a shopping centre where about 40 males had gathered and were believed to be filming a video.

Officers directed the group to move on because of concerns about the size of the gathering and that some men were drinking alcohol.

“While speaking with the group, a bottle of beer was thrown towards police by an unknown male. The group left a short time later,” a policespokesperson said.

Police continued to monitor the group around Dimeny Park before they returned to the Dobell Rd carpark.

“The males, believed to be aged between their teens and mid-20s, allegedly began shouting abuse and throwing bottles of beer at (the officers),” the spokesperson said.

Police say OC spray was used when a number of males approached and threatened police before the crowd left the location.

The Public Order and Riot Squad along with the dog squad were called in as a precaution.

A 17-year-old boy was arrested for allegedly throwing a lit flare at police but released pending further inquiries.

Police returned some of the youths home to prevent any further incidents.

The filming of the clip came with an introduction that the Claymore area group was joining in on a growing gang rap scene in Sydney’s west.

The group’s first track would put them in the same league as other western Sydney area rap groups as OneFour from Mt Druitt and 21District from Cabramatta through to Gladesville.

The rap groups sing about life on the streets, although they are not gang members themselves.

Known gangs in the area include Greater Western from St Marys and Quakers Hill, Seven Hills Boys from Seven Hills and Blacktown Boys from Blacktown.

In June, police launched Strike Force Impala to combat the gangs, which are of primarily Polynesian background.

The strike force was launched after a brawl erupted between two rival gangs in the heart of Parramatta at 1pm on June 16. Two of the brawlers were armed with knives.

The Daily Telegraph revealed that a rapper from OneFour, Salec Sua, has been charged over his alleged involvement in another street brawl on July 10 on Mt Druitt Rd.

OneFour rapper Salec Sua, 27, was been charged with rioting after a violent brawl at a Mt Druitt pub in July.

Police allege Sua, known by his rap name Lekks14, was one of at least a dozen people involved in the brawl between opposing street groups.

A police spokeswoman said the disturbance at Claymore on Saturday night was being treated as a separate incident.
