IMAGINE a world where the three-day weekend was a regular occurrence.

IMAGINE a world where the three-day weekend was a regular occurrence.

While the penalty rate debate continues to rage the real place we should look is the way we construct our working weeks.

The five-day, 38-hour week has long been the norm, but surely there is a better, more productive way to approach work.

It would mean a radical shift in trading hours, staff numbers and the way employees operate, but I believe the future of industry is based around a four-day, 40-hour week.
 

So often you hear people (or you) say the "weekend wasn't long enough", or how employees engage in long battles to find the motivation to overcome "hump day".

Imagine your working world if both problems disappeared by virtue of putting in longer days.

An extra day of the week to visit doctors, go to the bank, shop or relaxing by the beach (or the television - no judgment here).

However you choose to spend your current weekend, imagine what else you could get done with an extra 24 hours.

There is no widespread plan to adopt the four-day working week, but it is something we should consider in future.
