WATERCOOLER: Dump the Queen? Go dump yourselves!

JOHNO'S SAY: I love the monarchy, I love the Queen and I especially love our flag. A bit of respect please, let it stay.

JOHNO'S SAY: Seven of our eight state and territory leaders (premiers and chief ministers) recently gathered together, on our behalf, and signed a ratty document aimed at dumping our monarchy, our Queen and, inevitably, our treasured flag.

And, I must apologise here for all my nasty comments about Western Australia ditching daylight saving and giving a minority of Queenslanders some sort of excuse for us not aligning ourselves with the rest of the country for six months of the year.

Please forgive me Premier Barnett and thank you for going it alone on common-sense and supporting our beloved Commonwealth and its constitution.

Do any of you remember Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk going to the 31 January 2015 election with a policy like this? I don't.

Wasn't it just a handful of years ago that we had a referendum about this matter and the republican push was solidly defeated?

I mean is our country and our democracy so unstable under the current system that we need to change it?

If we do forsake our current system can we be guaranteed that we will have a better country and a better democracy?


SHOULD SHE STAY OR SHOULD SHE GO?

IS IT TIME AN AUSTRALIAN LED THIS GREAT NATION?

IF A MONARCHY HAS WORKED SO FAR, IS IT WORTH RISKING A CHANGE?

This whole exercise is a sham and a case of our state/territory leaders tackling soft targets rather that the issues that really matter.

If you lot want to make a difference to our society why not eliminate poverty or unemployment or depression or homelessness or rising prices or all of the above?

I love the monarchy, I love the Queen and I especially love our flag.

My grandfathers and great uncles fought under that beautiful symbol as did my father, my uncles and aunt.

A bit of respect please, let it stay.
 

Are the Brits that bad? Would we be as stable today if the Spanish, Portuguese, Dutch or Germans had raised their flag first?

I get the Aboriginal flag, it's warming to see it fly proudly beside our flag.

I get the "Welcome to Country" by local elders at many official functions and I am a supporter of the "Recognition" push - now that would be a wonderful change to our constitution.

So come on you lot, put that ratty document on the roll with the Sorbent and fix the issues that are important.
