The next stage in the ongoing multimillion redevelopment of a growing retirement community in the heart of Alstonville on the North Coast has been revealed.
BaptistCare has proposed a $26 million project including almost 50 new single-storey independent living units at Maranoa Village on The Avenue.
The community consists of an existing village of 28 older units, 12 newer units which were opened in 2018 and a 90-bed Residential Aged Care Facility on a 44,000 square metre site.
Maranoa Village units have been advertised for between $350,000 and $650,000.
The redevelopment would see 28 existing older units demolished to make way for replacements.
An existing hostel on the north of the site would also be bulldozed, along with an existing community centre.
New internal roads and 47 off-street carparking spaces are proposed to support more residents.
About 65 trees would be removed, however, tree replenishment works have been proposed to offset the impact.
The site is mapped as partially bushfire prone land, with an assessment finding the proposed buildings may be subject to “potential radiant heat and ember attack” if disaster strikes.
The next proposed stage in the redevelopment of the site is another 64-bed, two-storey residential aged care facility.
Development consent is due to be sought in a separate application to council.
