A West Ballina man has been charged with firing a shotgun at Ballina Fair Shopping Centre.
Jordan Brandon Sines has been charged with three counts of possessing a shortened single-barrel shotgun without authority, two counts of having a firearm in a public place and intimation/stalking.
The 26-year-old faced Byron Bay Local Court through an audiovisual link with, a distinct curly mullet-style haircut, applying for bail on Monday.
He has not yet entered pleas to the allegations.
Police allege a shot was fired on River St, Ballina about 6.30am on August 15.
It’s also alleged police were called to Kerr St following reports of a gunshot two days later, at 4.55pm.
The second shot was allegedly discharged at Ballina Fair Shopping Centre, court documents state.
Police have alleged Sines and another man were arguing, he took out a firearm and let off a shot before both men fled the scene.
No reports of injuries have been made to police.
Police allegedly raided a home on Westland Dr, West Ballina on August 17 and found a firearm, which was seized by officers to be forensically examined.
Sines was arrested at a property on Kalinga St, West Ballina on September 1.
Magistrate Karen Stafford told the court a balaclava was discovered during a raid, Sines surname was written on a piece of evidence and he tried to run away during his arrest.
Police prosecutor Val Short told the court time in prison would be a likely outcome if Sines pleads or is found guilty.
She said Sines had strong ties to the community.
Defence lawyer Natasha Kate Wood said forensic material was still being gathered and identification was still an issue in the case.
She said Sines had been “supporting a family member” and that bail should be granted with conditions.
Ms Stafford said there was CCTV footage available and it was alleged text messages showed Sines “had access to a firearm”.
Sines was refused bail and he is due to face the court again on September 4.
