A young man is set to face a North Coast court after allegedly assaulting three officers during his arrest, including hitting one in the face and spitting on another.
The 25-year-old was charged with assaulting a police officer causing actual bodily harm and two counts of assaulting a police officer without causing actual bodily harm.
At about 9.15pm last Friday, police were called to Richmond St, Woodburn where they spoke with a man and woman.
The man became angry with police and while officers were arresting him, he allegedly struck an officer in the face which resulted in a cut and swelling.
Officers used capsicum spray and the man was arrested.
While in custody, he allegedly spat on another officer’s face and allegedly stomped on the foot of another.
He was taken to Lismore Base Hospital and later charged.
The man has been granted bail to appear before Ballina Local Court on July 25.
