Art on the Gogh ‘paint and sip’ hosts online art classes amid Sydney lockdown

“Paint and sip” mobile business Art on the Gogh is inspiring creativity amid Sydney’s extended lockdown with online art classes.

Economic recovery from Sydney lockdown will be 'more gradual' than before

It was the right idea at the wrong time, but a small “paint and sip’’ business that launched just one week before lockdown is now hosting virtual art classes to inspire creativity and keep people connected.

Art on the Gogh is the brainchild of Western Sydney resident Hieu Le, 24.

It offers group or private painting classes and encourages students to pair the activity with a glass of wine in hand.

Ms Le, who left her job as a primary school teacher to pursue her artistic flair, started the business by hosting lessons at the customers’ location of choice, but Covid-19 restrictions forced her to sketch up new ways to foster the same enjoyment online.

“I thought I was going to be jobless, but you’ve always got to adapt what’s being put upon you,’’ Ms Le said.

“It’s something that I love. You paint, have a glass of wine or two and share that with friends.

“I thought the interaction and engagement with the host was lacking at the other paint and sips that I’d been too … so that’s where I bring some personality and character into it.

“You can join in a public session or have a private one, which is more popular because there’s lots of lockdown birthdays happening and it’s a way to get together where you do something that’s interesting and different.”

The business also offers a painting service for children.
