As spring approaches, heavy contouring is out and natural makeup is in according to makeup experts.
With millions of people in lockdown and wearing masks, less is more when applying cosmetics at home, says celebrity makeup artist Chantelle Baker, who has worked with stars like Sarah Jessica Parker and Boy George.
“I think we’re sick of being in tracksuits and looking dull,” Baker said.
“People are saying, ‘Ok so what can I do to feel good?’ Because everyone’s feeling very average right now.
“For me, it’s all about really good skin and glowing from within, especially in Australia we like to have that approachable base to makeup. It’s about looking fresh with minimal makeup.”
Runway Room Cosmetics CEO Alex Fevola added, “My favourite trend is natural glowing skin, it’s such a timeless look.”
Hollywood plastic surgeon and star of E! TV series Botched, Dr. Paul Nassif, said looking your best can boost your self-confidence.
“Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. So much of how people feel is connected to their perception of how they look,” Dr. Nassif said.
“Overall, if by caring how they look causes them to have a greater self-image, that sense of positivity can be helpful to their overall mental and emotional wellbeing. That’s generally a good thing.”
