EMILY Seebohm has said yesterday was an “incredibly hard day” for her in light of Mitch Larkin’s vehement denial he cheated on her.

In a statement posted to social media today, the champion swimmer, 26, said she believes “women shouldn’t be silenced by men” but that now was not the right time to share her side of the story.

“The media has reached out to me over the past 24 hours in light of the story from yesterday and to be honest, yesterday was an incredibly hard day for me and reliving it again right now is not in my best interest; both emotionally and physically,” she wrote in the statement shared to her Instagram account.

It follows fellow Queensland backstroker Larkin, 25, telling U on Sunday he “absolutely did not cheat” on Seebohm in his first sit-down interview since the allegations surfaced earlier this year.

Responding to rumours of an alleged affair, Larkin told the U on Sunday that breaking up with Seebohm was one of the hardest things he could do.

“That was really tough — ending it — and then to be accused of everything else was a whole other kettle of fish,” he said.

In her statement, Seebohm said her current focus was getting back on track to achieve her dreams as she prepares for the Australian Short Course Trials in Melbourne.

“I believe women shouldn’t be silenced by men and we should have the courage to stand up when things aren’t right,” she wrote.

“But there is a right time and place for the story to come out and I need to focus on getting myself back on track for what I need to do to achieve my dreams!”

Her latest post comes after Seebohm posted quotes to her Instagram account on Sunday, including “Sometimes the best thing you can do is keep your mouth shut and your eyes open. The truth always comes out in the end” and “Tomorrow is a new day”.

Former backstroke competitor Meagen Nay, who also previously dated Larkin, took to her own social media channels yesterday to hit out at him.

“Yeh ok Mitch,” Nay wrote adding four laughing emojis alongside a picture of The Sunday Mail story.

Nay has previously voiced her support for Seebohm and reached out to her “to see if she was OK” following the high-profile split, which Seebohm announced in July, taking to social media to address “speculation and rumours’’ and confirm they’d broken up “due to current events’’.

“There is hard evidence in here, trust me,” Gold Coast-based Nay posted on social media at the time of The Courier-Mail’s original story of affair allegations against Larkin.
