The idea of extra time during the AFL home-and-away season is back on the agenda after the Brisbane and North Melbourne coaches weighed in after their sides played out a draw. Have your say.

Brisbane Lions coach Chris Fagan has sparked the idea of extra time being introduced in the AFL home-and-away season after his side’s draw with North Melbourne on Sunday.

The Roos almost caused the biggest upset of the season in Hobart, overcoming a 20-point deficit to split the points.

The result was the first draw of the season.

“I’d like extra time,” Fagan said.

“I think it would add a bit more fun to footy. A bit more drama, I think that’s a good idea.”

North coach Alastair Clarkson, who labelled himself as “traditionalist”, said the debate would continue to swirl.

“The draw does change up the dynamics of one side in the top eight (who) now has different points,” Clarkson said.

“It’s unlikely, unless there are more draws to the teams that are in the top eight, it’s not going to come down to percentage where Brisbane finish now because it will be points differential.

“It’s been an ongoing debate for many a year (and) that probably will continue to be so.

“I like the idea of extra time being played in finals but don’t mind so much.

“At least when you walk away from a game you’re not a loser but the disappointing thing for both sides is you come here trying to secure the win and it’s a bit deflating for both Fage’s and myself and both the sides that wasn’t the case.”

The result left Brisbane half-a-game clear on top of the ladder while the Roos are a game-and-a-half ahead of West Coast in the race to avoid the wooden spoon.
