SFL Roundup: Cygnet clings on, Lions rise, Lindisfarne soars, New Norfolk dominates
Cygnet survived a scare to keep its unbeaten run alive, while Huonville climbed to second and Lindisfarne surged into the top five on the back of Ed Stanley’s eight-goal haul in a pivotal weekend of SFL action.

An inaccurate Cygnet have managed to hang on in a nail biter to keep its undefeated season alive.
The Port held onto a nine point victory at home against a fired up Sorell, taking a 6.17 (53) to 6.8 (44) win.
After trailing by 12 points at the main break, Cygnet managed to keep Sorell scoreless and kicked 2.7 of their own to hold a seven-point lead at the final break.
Both teams kicked a goal each in the final term with the Port able to hang on.
It hands Sorell its second loss in as many weeks and of the season, having gone down to Dodges Ferry last weekend.
Cygnet’s Fraser Polley and Sorell’s Nicholas Thornbury were the only two multiple goal kickers of the day with two goals each.
In another battle for the top four, the Lions had plenty of bite against the Sharks, claiming an 18-point victory.
Huonville were coming off a loss to ladder leaders Cygnet with Dodges Ferry coming off a strong win against Sorell.
But the Lions applied plenty of tackling pressure and the run and carry led them to a 12.14 (86) to 10.8 (68) victory at Huonville Oval.
Lions’ Tom Wright kicked a game high four goals with Sharks’ William Broomhall booted three.
The Sharks had all the run in the final quarter, keeping the Lions scoreless, Dodges Ferry kicked 3.2 to close the game from 38-points to 18 but a scrappy final 10 minutes kept the remainder of the game without a score.
The win takes the Lions to second spot and a game behind Cygnet but a game clear of Sorell (third), Dodges Ferry (fourth) and Lindisfarne (fifth).
An eight goal domination by Ed Stanley helped Lindisfarne claim its third win of the season, defeating Hobart by 76-points.
The win puts the Two Blues back into the top five and leaves Hobart still chasing its first win as Lindisfarne ran out 19.13 (127) to 8.3 (51) winners.
Stanley’s bag of eight was supported by Jake McPherson (three goals) and Ryan Stocks (two goals who also kicked multiple goals for Lindisfarne while Toby Maughan and Harry Van Kraanen kicked two goals each for Hobart.
Leading by 26 points at the final break, the Two Blues booted 8.4 to just two behinds in the final quarter to put the game to bed.
New Norfolk picked up its second win in as many weeks and its second of the season with a massive 97-point win over Claremont.
A 13-goal second half led by Jacob Daley who kicked five was the difference with New Norfolk claiming a 24.18 (162) to 9.11 (65) victory.
