It was a mixed weekend for Hobart racer Campbell Logan in the Supercars Gen2 championship round at Symmons Plains at the weekend butwith the help of stablemate Chaz Mostert, he hopes to be on top of the podium at the end of the season.
The 21-year-old hot-shot drives for one of the Supercars power teams, Walkinshaw Andretti United, in the second tier championship.
His Saturday race was ruined when he was punted off the track, which ended his race.
Sunday was not much better, hit again by a rival driver, ruining his shot at the podium.
Ever the optimist, Logan will keep racing hard in his goal to get to the top, and seeking the advice of the popular Mostert.
“To be with such a strong team in Walkinshaw Andretti United, it is a privilege to be able lean on and learn from these guys and to race a one-generation-old Supercar is pretty awesome, to say the least,” Logan said.
“We are a really close-knit team so if I’ve got a question he is more than happy to answer.
“I’ve learned a lot from Chaz — mostly the off-track things like preparation going into a race meeting— and the cool thing about Chaz is that the man you see on TV is exactly who he is, he’s just a great bloke.”
The Gen2 Supercars in the Super2 championship are actually faster than the Gen3 cars in the main game, which comes down to more downforce in the former generation cars.
“They are a unique beast to handle, very different to anything I have raced before,” Logan said.
“A very special technique is required to make these cars go fast, and I am still learning that _ and that’s what Super2 is all about.
“We are a development series and we’re all trying to get better and better and learn the technique because if we one day get to step up to Supercars we are on the pace or there abouts.”
