A child has been pulled unconscious from the bottom of a Gold Coast hotel pool with paramedics administering CPR to save the little girl’s life.

The three-year-old had been swimming in a pool at a property off Palm Ave in Surfers Paradise when she was discovered not breathing just after lunch time on Sunday and emergency services were called.

Gold Coast Superintendent Brett Jackson said: “The child became wedged under a waterfall.

“The child then sunk to the bottom of the pool before it was identified. First responders and local staff attended and commenced CPR successfully regaining consciousness of the child, which was a fantastic outcome.”

Supt Jackson said it was the second serious water incident within 24 hours on the Gold Coast after a man was found facedown in the surf at Burleigh Heads around 11.54pm on Saturday.

Police were the first on scene and commenced CPR before paramedics arrived. The 59-year-old man from Miami couldn’t be revived and died at the scene.

“What this does highlight is the real need for people to make sure that they have, if they haven't already, done first aid and CPR,” Supt Jackson said.

“It may be that the CPR could save a life.”

The man’s death is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be prepared for the coroner.
