Two teens have been charged by police after a car allegedly stolen at Pacific Fair was pursued through the northern Gold Coast.

The police helicopter, dog squad and Polair were all involved in the operation after a BMW X4 stolen at the Broadbeach shopping centre was seen travelling north.

Officers deployed tyre spikes to stop the vehicle at Pacific Pines but it only finally stopped at Ormeau Train station, sparking a search for four people believed to have been inside.

It is the latest dramatic pursuit of an allegedly stolen car through the suburbs as figures amid a rise in thefts on the Gold Coast.

“It will be alleged that at around 2.45pm the BMW X4 was stolen from a business located at the centre,” a Queensland Police Service (QPS) spokesperson said.

“With assistance from Polair, the vehicle was monitored as it was driven north, travelling along Heslop Road in Pacific Pines where a tyre deflation device was successfully deployed at approximately 4.30pm.

“The occupants allegedly abandoned the vehicle near the train station at Ormeau and left the scene on foot.

“After an extensive search by officers, the dog squad and Polair they were taken into police custody.”

A 16-year-old Nerang boy has since been charged with one count each of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and trespass.

Both were due to appear at the Children’s Court in Southport on Tuesday.

The pursuit was the latest in a number of similar incident on the Gold Coast in recent days.

On Sunday evening three adults were charged after a GWM ute allegedly stolen in Molendinar earlier that day was stopped on Bermuda St in Mermaid Waters.

On Saturday teens aged 15 and 16 were charged after an allegedly stolen Nissan Micra was tracked by police to Pimpama.

Official QPS figures show a significant rise in people charged with unlawful use of motor vehicle offences in the first four months of this year, with 988 offences recorded compared to 868 in the same period last year.
