A Gold Coast police officer has been named in a vile and homophobic taunt found in a stolen car as two teenagers were arrested nearby.
According to police sources the degrading message was written in permanent marker on the dashboard of the Nissan Micra.
It was discovered as the stolen car was being recovered at Pimpama on Saturday night.
“They’ve named one of our colleagues – that’s a low act,” a police source said of whoever wrote the messages.
“I guess it goes to show we’re getting recognition for our good work catching them.”
The message, which the Bulletin has censored to protect the named officer and their privacy, refers to them as a “fat dogs (sic)” and makes slurs regarding sexuality.
There is no suggestion by police, or by the Bulletin, that the arrested juveniles are responsible for the message left inside the alleged stolen car.
Alongside it is a drawing which depicts what appears to be male genitalia, and a red smudge which has been circled with the label “fingerprint” written in permanent marker.
In a statement a Queensland Police Service (QPS) spokesman said officers had been tracking the Nissan Micra after it was spotted driving dangerously earlier that evening near Labrador.
“With assistance from Polair, the vehicle was followed to Pimpama Jacobs Well Road” the QPS spokesman said.
“A tyre deflation device was successfully deployed at approximately 9.45pm.
“Two occupants allegedly abandoned the vehicle and left the scene on foot towards the Old Pacific Highway.”
Police arrested two juveniles a short time later.
A 16-year-old Arundel boy has been charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle, dangerous driving, and without a licence.
A 15-year-old Biggera Waters girl was charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle.
They were both denied police bail and will appear in Southport Childrens Court this week.
In a separate and unrelated investigation, police sources say they are still hunting a group of known serious repeat juvenile offenders wanted over a number of car thefts, burglaries and fuel drive-offs spanning more than a week across the Coast.
They’re believed to be linked to a Mercedes sedan which was abandoned in the middle of a Nerang street on Friday night, and a white Kia Sedan which was dumped a few hours later in the underground carpark at Woolworths Coomera.
