Three charged after police use tyre spikes to stop stolen vehicle on Bermuda St

Police have charged three people after using tyre spikes to bring a stolen vehicle to a halt in dramatic scenes on the Gold Coast.

Police have charged three people after using tyre spikes to stop a stolen vehicle.

In dramatic scenes, the car – a black GWM Cannon utility – was driven behind noise barriers on Bermuda St in Mermaid Waters before coming to a halt in a drain where the three were quickly apprehended by police.

The GWM had been stolen from a business in Molendinar earlier in the day.

“Around 8pm a black GWM Cannon utility was observed on Bermuda Street,” a Queensland Police Service spokesperson said.

“Police covertly tracked the vehicle to a fast food restaurant on Bermuda Street where a tyre deflation device was deployed nearby damaging the wheels of the vehicle.

“The vehicle travelled a short distance into a nature strip.”

A 33-year-old man from Highland Park has since been charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, enter premises and commit indictable offence by break, receiving tainted property and unlicenced driving. He was due to appear in the Southport Magistrates Court on Monday.

A 29-year-old Nerang man was charged with lawful use of a motor vehicle, possession of a dangerous drug, possessing relevant substances or things, possession of a knife in a public place or a school and authority required to possess explosives (ammunition). He was also due to appear in the Southport Magistrates Court on Monday.

A 27-year-old Greenbank woman was given a notice to appear for the offences of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and possessing anything used in the commission of crime defined in Part 2. She was due to face Southport Court on August 6.
