We’re at the halfway mark of the cricket season and there have been plenty of young stars emerge in the junior divisions of the Geelong Cricket Association.
And from nearly 1800 young bowlers, from under-17s down to under-11s of the boy’s competitions, Murgheboluc’s Xavier Lindsay has been a region-leader with 14 wickets at an average of six
Lindsay has played for the Frogs in the under-17s and is taking a wicket on average every 13 balls, with the best figures of 4-16.
Meanwhile, Collendina’s Matteo Fragapane is the leading run scorer across all divisions with 272 runs and a highest score of 50.
Fragapane, alongside Queenscliff’s Rohaan Kanyalkar-Thomson, have hit the largest share of sixes with 12 each from nine games.
Coming in third overall for runs is Angus Ford, who made his BPCA A2 debut with Barwon Heads last summer, who believes he still has major room for improvement in his game.
“I actually feel like I am not hitting the ball as well as I have usually do and that I feel like I have left too many runs out there on the field,” Ford said, who has a highest score of 69 for the season.
“However, I do feel like early on in my innings I have been able to stay patient and punish bad balls.
Ford has started batting out of his crease, and added a new trigger movement.
Bannockburn’s Harvey Broster has stroked the larger number of boundaries with 41 from eight innings.
The highest score of the season so far is 110, reached by both Drysdale’s Archie Hearn and Murgheboluc’s Vignesh Ram.
There have been seven century makers so far this summer.
