AN Ocean Grove doctor accused of rape denied he tried to kiss a patient during a late-night consultation in Geelong when he was interviewed by police.

Shafiul Milky, 59, was called to a Norlane home on February 6, 2019 where it is alleged he touched a female patient inappropriately while there to treat her for body pain and a sore throat.

Dr Milky, who worked as a GP at Ocean Grove and for an out-of-hours on-call service, is on trial accused of two counts of rape, nine counts of sexual assault and four counts of indecent assault.

It is alleged those offences took place between September 2012 and February 2019, mainly at Ocean Grove, and relate to six women.

In his police interview in February 2019, played to the Geelong County Court on

Monday, Dr Milky denied he touched the young woman’s vagina, breast, nipples and massaged her hips during the consultation at Norlane.

He denied he tried to put her head in his lap while he was at the house.

Dr Milky said he couldn’t remember when asked if he said to the woman “you’re a good girl, you’re going to be OK”.

In the police interview, Dr Milky said “I don’t remember” when asked by a detective if he touched the woman in an “intimate” area. He then immediately corrected himself and said “I didn’t”.

During the interview, he told police: “At no stage did I touch any of her private parts.”

The court heard Dr Milky arrived at the home for the consultation shortly after 10.46pm and was typing notes about it in a car at 11.14pm.

Minutes later the woman called triple-0 in a “distressed state”, the court heard.

Dr Milky told police the consultation did not last long enough for the woman’s allegations to have occurred.

He told police he touched the woman’s neck, the lumbar area of her back, and the lower part of her hamstrings to assess her for pain.

He said the woman told him she had a history of depression and bipolar disorder, and was taking medication for depression.

During the police interview Dr Milky said he felt uncomfortable when he arrived at the woman’s home because she was dressed in a thin top, very-short shorts and that the woman walked “very close” to him as she took him to an area for the examination.

Dr Milky said he had built rapport with previous patients, which meant they shared things with him not related to medical conditions, and at times he would hug elderly patients while working.

The trial before Judge Felicity Hampel continues.
