An Ocean Grove doctor has faced court for the alleged sexual assault or rape of six of his patients, including a teenage girl.
While working as a general practitioner at the Ocean Grove Peninsula Family Medical Practice, Dr Shafiul Milky allegedly inappropriately touched five women under the guise of performing legitimate procedures like breast examinations and pap smears.
He also allegedly assaulted a woman in her own home while working as a doctor with the National Home Service.
Dr Milky has pleaded not guilty to 15 charges of rape, sexual assault and indecent assault in the County Court of Victoria.
Three women alleged Dr Milky touched their breasts, including a 19-year-old woman who said she visited the clinic for help with back pain and a woman who claimed he touched her three times.
One of those women said during her visit in September 2012, Dr Milky told her he needed to pull her pants and underwear down to “feel her pulse” and placed his hands on her inner thighs.
She alleged she noticed Dr Milky “pulling or scratching at his groin area”, prosecutor Richard Pirrie told the court on Tuesday.
The woman said she contacted the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency, police, and complained directly to the clinic but Dr Milky denied inappropriately touching her during her visits.
Another woman said she attended the clinic in October 2017 and alleged she was told she needed an “urgent” pap smear.
She told police Dr Milky allegedly had her sit in a “froggy position” while on her back and inserted two of his fingers.
She alleged he did this for 30 seconds while he “made noises” like a “groan …(or a) moan” and said “very nice”.
A different woman also alleged Dr Milky inserted his fingers during a pap smear, which she claimed caused her to bleed.
One of the women said after the examination, Dr Milky allegedly had her place her head on his chest and her hands on his hips.
While he allegedly massaged her neck and shoulders, she told police he said she “needed a partner who could massage her” and asked her whether she was currently sexually active.
At least three of the women came forward in June 2019.
One woman said she did so after reading an article about Dr Milky’s AHPRA suspension in the Geelong Advertiser.
The trial is expected to last three weeks and will hear evidence from a medical professional about the illegitimacy of the examinations Dr Milky allegedly performed on the women.
Opening submissions from prosecution are expected to continue on Wednesday morning.
