Secondary schools across Geelong have revealed the students who will lead them as school captains next year.
Meet the region’s next generation of leaders.
Geelong College
Xavier Blood and Zara Goodall-Wilson are ready to take on their new roles as captains of the private school with support from co-vice captains Eliza Cullen and Shaun McKenna.
Xavier said it was an honour to accept the role.
“College is such an inclusive and incredible community, and getting to be one of the faces of that is something I’m really looking forward to for next year,” he said.
Kardinia International College
Edith Kefaloukos and Harvey Marles will be leading their fellow students at the Bell Post Hill school next year.
Edith said Kardinia’s school logo — a bridge symbol — reminded her of her connection to community, the environment, and global ideas.
“As an international community, our school is diverse, and leadership must reflect this diversity,” she said.
Western Heights College
Finn Powell and Georgia Tyrrell will lead Hamlyn Heights secondary school Western Heights College in 2025.
Finn said he was looking forward to creating a school culture where all students felt included and heard.
“Next year I’m really looking forward to having the chance to leave my touch on the school for future generations of Western Heights College students,” he said.
Geelong High School
Geelong High School is getting ready to welcome the 2025 school captains Annabelle Lane and Jackson Barker.
Jackson said having moved to Geelong High School only 18 months ago, he never thought he would have the opportunity to lead the school.
“But here I am, and I am so grateful for this opportunity,” he said.
“But I’m a massive Carlton supporter and would give up this role to have Carlton win the flag in 2025.”
Clonard College
Mary Cavenett and Serena Cunningham will be leading Herne Hill girls’ school Clonard College in 2025.
Mary said as a team, they were planning to lead with a focus on the school’s 2025 theme: hospitality.
Serena said next year would be one of the biggest years of their lives.
“And I can’t wait to embrace it, giving it everything I have,” she said.
“And I am even more excited to be working alongside Mary for it.”
Sacred Heart College
At Sacred Heart, there will be three school captains leading the Newtown girls’ school: Alice Chomley, Bronte O’Halloran and Angelina Pollard.
“I am excited to work alongside Bronte and Angelina next year as we make a dynamic and effective team,” Alice said.
St Joseph’s College
Charlie Meadows will be stepping up as captain, with Kaue Caminha and Harris Henderson as the deputy college captains.
“A quality I wish to lead with alongside Charlie and Kaue next year is honesty,” Harris said.
“I believe genuine communication between peers is the best way to achieve something.”
He said he wished to embody the Newtown boys’ school motto of striving for the highest in all endeavours.
North Geelong Secondary College
North Geelong Secondary College has welcomed Lucy Heitmann and Dean Smilevski as college captains, alongside Ashley Clingan (arts captain), Charlee-K Hide (cultural), Asher Mitchell (sports) and Dayna Maring (academic).
St Ignatius
Drysdale co-educational Catholic school St Ignatius College Geelong welcomed Tucker Kooloos and Isabel Gee as school captains, celebrating with a Mass service.
Geelong Grammar
Boarding school Geelong Grammar has named Spencer Siebel and Leonie Kosasi-Papdan as the School Captains of the Corio Campus.
Matthew Flinders Girls Secondary College
Alice Belcher and Lily Dixon will take on the roles at Matthew Flinders.
Newcomb Secondary College
At Newcomb Secondary College Mia Lynch, just 16, and Scarlett Johannesen, 17, will take on the challenge with the support of vice captains Riley Cameron and Dhyana Brahmbhatt.
Some schools are waiting to announce their chosen captains, with Oberon Secondary College and Belmont Secondary College still to reveal the leaders at their year 11 formals, and Christian College to announce theirs in early 2025.
Northern Bay College, Covenant College, Lutheran College and Surf Coast Secondary are still in the process of choosing their captains.
