A Geelong man believed to have been a former Nomad bikie has appeared in court over allegations he killed a dog.

Andrew Jones, 29, was interviewed and charged by police last month following the death of the animal at an Armstrong Creek home, alleged to have occurred on May 16.

Graphic images obtained by this masthead following the alleged incident show a miniature jack russell, laying on its side on concrete, bleeding from the head and face.

This dog allegedly died from injuries sustained during an incident in Armstrong Creek. A 29-year-old man will front court over the animal's death.

It will be alleged the animal was stabbed and died as a result of the injuries.

Mr Jones was arrested and remanded in custody four days later, on May 20, and appeared in the Geelong Magistrates Court on Wednesday via video link from the medium-security Marngoneet Correctional Centre.

Dressed in standard-issue prison greens, Mr Jones spoke only to confirm his name and that he could hear the proceedings during the brief mention.

He is facing burglary, threats and animal cruelty charges.

The Geelong Advertiser understands he is accused of forcing entry to a property and fatally maiming the pet.

Mr Jones’ defence barrister, Will Hart, told the court he was seeking an adjournment to assess a full criminal brief of evidence from the prosecution against his client.

Magistrate Simon Guthrie adjourned the matter for a contest mention on August 21.

A contest mention is a preliminary hearing usually held when charges are being disputed.

Mr Jones has not yet entered a plea and will remain in custody at the Marngoneet prison in Lara.

Aggravated animal cruelty carries a maximum jail term of two years.
