Search teams have uncovered a crucial new clue that could lead them to missing man Ben Chisholm after he disappeared on Magnetic Island eight days ago.

The 22-year-old has been missing since Wednesday, 13 July, at about 10am in Nelly Bay on Magnetic Island.

An extensive bushland search is expected to ramp up today after emergency services uncovered a new clue to Ben’s possible whereabouts on Wednesday afternoon.

Mr Chisholm’s family said search teams found more items of his clothes — a dark green jacket and shorts — that his older sister Shiralee Rosario had last seen him in.

The clothes were found about 150 metres away from where Ben’s hat and shirt were found along a bush track near Nelly Bay, about 1.5km up from Manderlay Ave, on Thursday.

“We are feeling they are searching in the right area,” Mr Chisholm’s aunt Kaylene Bell said.

“Ben will be weak and needing water. The scrub is extremely dense, he may have slipped and not be able to get up or maybe go down.

“Ben wouldn’t disappear this long or hide out intentionally on his family for this long.

“The family is so grateful for everyone that has been involved in searching for Ben so many people have been involved, and the small island community has been so supportive.

“Thank you for your support and thanking everyone for sharing far and wide.”

Mr Chisholm has not been in contact with his family since last Wednesday.

The behaviour is considered out of character by those close to him, and his family have expressed concerns for his wellbeing.

Ben is described as caucasian in appearance, about 170cm tall, medium build and long, light-brown hair.

He was dressed in shorts and a dark green long-sleeved pullover. Investigators urge Ben, or anyone with information of his whereabouts, to contact police.
