Air search for the missing Nelly Bay man

A helicopter, drones and the dog squad are scouring extremely rugged terrain on Magnetic Island today as the desperate search for missing man Ben Chisholm ramps up.

The 22-year-old went missing from his home in Nelly Bay on Magnetic Island last Wednesday, July 13.

He was last seen heading towards the Arcadia walking trails and his hat and shirt were found on one of the bush tracks on Thursday.

Search efforts on the island have ramped up this week with a QGAir Rescue 521 Helicopter and police drones searching the island’s “extremely rugged terrain” from the air.

Acting Inspector Mark Camilleri said police are increasing resources in the search for Ben on Tuesday.

Police have release vision as they continuing the search today for missing 22-year-old Nelly Bay man, Ben Chisholm on Magnetic Island.

“The Mobile Police Facility and the dog squad are being deployed to Magnetic Island today to assist in the search,” he said.

“The helicopter continues searching as well as drones, Queensland Rugged Area Tracking (QRAT) officers, Special Emergency Response Team (SERT), SES and Rural Fire Service, Parks and Wildlife.”

It comes after Mr Chisholm’s older sister Shiralee Rosario said she held serious concerns for her brother’s wellbeing.

She said he was exhibiting “unstable” behaviour on Tuesday — the day before he went missing — when residents in Picnic Bay called the cops on him because he was “door knocking on a random house.”

She said police didn’t seem to “pick up” on Ben’s bad mental state and dropped him off at home. The next morning he went missing.

Ben is described as caucasian in appearance, about 170cm tall, medium build and long, light-brown hair.

He was dressed in shorts and a dark green long-sleeved pullover. Investigators urge Ben, or anyone with information about his whereabouts, to contact police.
