Illegal guns, fireworks, animals seized in raid of top NT cop’s home

A woman has died after being struck by a car on the outskirts of Alice Springs.

Police believe the woman was lying in the middle of the road when a car struck her about 3.40am Tuesday.

Initial investigations indicated the vehicle was travelling on the Stuart Highway between Percy Court and Karnte Road.

The male driver stopped and phoned emergency services before starting CPR on the woman.

St John Ambulance crews tried to revive the woman but she died at the scene.

Police said they have no reason to suspect any “guilt on the behalf of the driver”.

Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Jeshua Kelly said the Major Crash Investigation Unit was investigating.

He called for any witnesses or people travelling in the area between Percy Court and Karnte Road to come forward.

The Stuart Highway was closed with motorists diverted through a dirt road around the incident.

All other motorists were advised to take an alternate route where possible.

The tragedy comes just days after a 22-year-old man died in a horrific single-vehicle crash at Knuckey Lagoon on Saturday morning.

It brings the Northern Territory’s road toll to 38 for 2022, up from 35 for the entire 2021 period.
